Box Score CARY, N.C. – Iva Zelic and Sally Pethybridge won their opening doubles match, but were knocked out in the second round of the Qualifying Draw Monday at the
ITA All-American Championships hosted at Cary Tennis Park.
The Portland duo cruised to an 8-3 win against Utah's tandem of Kaila Barksdale and Marcela Lopez in the opening match, but were defeated by Nebraska's Raphaelle Lacasse and Isabel Adrover Gallego in the next round, 8-2.
In the singles Prequalifying Draw, Zelic fell 6-3, 7-6 (4) to Alabama's Margaux Maquet, who was ranked as high as No. 45 nationally last season while playing at Charlotte, and dropped a hard-fought consolation match to San Diego's Filippa Bruu-Syversen 7-5, 7-5.
Since 1983, the ITA Women's All-American Championships have featured the nation's top NCAA Division I players and have been a pioneer in women's college tennis. The event features a Prequalifying Draw (96 Singles, 32 Doubles) and Qualifying Draw (64 Singles, 32 Doubles) leading up to the main event which features a Draw of 32 in both singles and doubles.
Zelic and Pethybridge will take the weekend off while the remaining Pilots will open their 2023-24 campaign this weekend at the Duck Invitational in Eugene.
