Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – The San Francisco Dons defeated the Portland women's tennis team by a 5-2 margin on Saturday in West Coast Conference action at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots fall to 9-5 overall, 1-2 in league play, while the Dons improve to 11-5 and 3-1 in WCC play. Portland had its seven-match win streak at LPTC snapped, while USF has now won seven in a row.
San Francisco secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, but Portland's No. 1 tandem of Iva Zelic and Sally Pethybridge improved to 24-7 overall this season and 12-2 in dual matches with a 6-2 victory.
The Dons went up 2-0 with a straight sets win at No. 2 singles, but Zelic then knocked off No. 99-ranked Maria Martinez Vaquero 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles to make it a 2-1 deficit.
Caragh Courtney outlasted Rimona Rouf in a thrilling third set tiebreaker at No. 3 to give the Dons another point before Simran Chhabra providing the clinching point with a win at No. 4.
Alaia Rubio Perez picked up Portland's second point with a win at No. 6 singles.
Portland returns to conference action next week with a road match at Loyola Marymount on Saturday at 11 a.m.
