SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Portland women's tennis standouts Iva Zelic and Sally Pethybridge earned All-West Coast Conference recognition as voted on by the leagues head coaches, the WCC announced on Wednesday. Zelic was named honorable mention in singles, while Pethybridge and Zelic garnered honorable mention recognition in doubles.
Zelic has been solid at the top of Portland's lineup all season with a 12-6 dual singles record and 4-2 mark against WCC opponents including a pair of wins against nationally ranked opponents. This marks the third time that Zelic has been recognized in singles. She was a second team pick in both 2022 and 2021.
The doubles tandem of Zelic and Pethybridge has been dominant all year. The duo became the first Portland women's doubles team to earn a national ranking and come in at No. 83 this week. Zelic and Pethybridge had a tremendous fall season that culminated with a Round of 16 appearance at the ITA Fall National Championships. They are 12-2 in dual doubles matches this spring, including a 3-1 record against league opponents at the top of the lineup.
Pethybridge, a sophomore from Claygate, England, was also an honorable mention doubles selection last season with partner Rimona Rouf.
The Pilots (10-8, 2-5 WCC)
cracked the ITA National Rankings earlier this year for just the third time and earned the No. 5 seed at this week's
West Coast Conference Tennis Championships. Portland will face the No. 4 seed BYU in the tournament's opening round on Thursday. The match will begin at 10 a.m. at the Aztec Tennis Complex and will have live video and scoring available.
