Box Score BERKELEY, Calif. – Portland women's tennis concluded action Sunday at the 2024 ITA Northwest Regional Championships with a 5-0 singles record at Hellman Tennis Complex. Overall, the Pilots had two players reach the Round of 32 main draw and finished 13-13 in singles action at the event.

"This was a very good tournament for our program, with one of the highest win totals in singles in my time in Portland," head coach Filip Zivkovic said. "Regionals this year was at a very high level, every match was extremely competitive and we definitely improved day to day."

Sally Pethybridge and Alaia Rubio Perez won their opening main draw matches on Saturday before being eliminated by a pair of nationally-ranked opponents in the Round of 32. Pethybridge defeated San Jose State's Olaya Bances Iglesias 6-1, 6-2 before falling to No. 106 Berta Passola Folch of Cal, 6-3, 6-3. Rubio Perez knocked off Norhan Hesham of Gonzaga 6-3, 0-6, 7-6 (5) before losing to No. 4 Connie Ma of Stanford 6-1, 6-2.

In extra matches on Sunday, Portland went a perfect 5-0 in singles.

"I am very proud of the way our team competed on the final day of the tournament," Zivkovic said. "We spent a lot of time discussing the importance of taking advantage of every opportunity to get better as both player and competitors and this group showed up today in the best way possible.

"I am looking forward to taking the lessons from this weekend and continue to develop every player. It's a group of very hard workers, eager to get better and I'm excited to see how good we can get over the next few months. Go Pilots!"

Portland will next be in action at the Gonzaga Invitational Oct. 25-27 in Spokane, Wash.
