Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – Sally Pethybridge won the top flight singles draw and Meagan Pearson and Nadine Arbaizar Martinez claimed the Red Draw doubles title Sunday to conclude the Gonzaga Invitational at Stevens Center.

"This was a great event for our team and I am particularly happy that Sally got her first college tournament trophy today," Portland head coach Filip Zivkovic said. "She played very solid all tournament and outplayed an All-WCC opponent from Gonzaga today. Nadine and Meagan showed a lot of great things on their way to a doubles title and I'm looking forward to building on that momentum."

Pethybridge knocked off Emily Robertson by 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 margin, while Pearson and Arbaizar Martinez were 6-4 winners against a tandem from Utah State. Pearson also was in the finals of the Red Draw singles, but came up short against Gonzaga's Brooke Bittner by a 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 margin.
 
"I am just very impressed by the level of tennis that our team has displayed over the last two events," Zivkovic said. "Meagan had a great run in this event and dropped a heartbreaker today against a very good opponent after saving five match points in the second set. She showed a lot of grit in all four of her matches and has taken some great steps forward this tournament."

Other consolation singles matches on Sunday featured impressive singles wins Alaia Rubio Perez, Arbaizar Martinez and freshman Lexie Flores.


"Alaia continues to improve with every opportunity and she had three great matches this weekend and got two solid wins. She is one of the best fighters I have had the opportunity to coach and she is setting a great example for the rest of our team with grit and determination to win.

"It was great seeing Nadine playing the best tennis of her career today as she beat a very solid senior from Gonzaga. Lexie also played her best match as a Pilot and made some incredible adjustments with regards to discipline and decision making that made a huge difference in her game this weekend.

"Aleksandra Dimitrijevic continues to play great tennis and she keeps putting herself in situations to win, my hope is that she will figure out a way to convert on some of those opportunities in the Spring."

The Pilots have concluded the fall season and will now shift focus to the upcoming spring dual season.

"Overall I am extremely proud of this group and their hard work and commitment to our program," Zivkovic noted. "We prioritize player development and improvement and this team is fully bought in and ready to compete at high level."
