NEW YORK – Portland Pilots midfielder Efetobo Aror was taken with the 12
th pick in the first round of the 2025 MLS SuperDraft on Friday by the Colorado Rapids, making him the fourth Pilot selected in the last two years. He becomes the second Pilot to be taken in the first round in the last two years and the third since 2010.
Aror is the 12
th Pilot to be taken in the MLS SuperDraft since 2000. Aror played in 10 games this year with six starts, playing a crucial role in the midfield. He scored the game-winning goal against Oregon State in the final game of the season, helping preserve a 10-game unbeaten streak to end the year and keep Portland undefeated in WCC play for the first time since 1989. Last season, Aror was named the WCC Freshman of the Year and made the All-WCC Freshman Team after playing 17 games with 12 starts, adding three assists.
With his selection, Aror makes it 10 players that have earned their chance at MLS since Nick Carlin-Voigt took over as head coach in 2016. Six players have been drafted, with Paul Christensen, Rey Ortiz, Kevin Bonilla, Jacob Babalai and Buba Fofanah all being taken in the MLS SuperDraft prior to Aror. Benji Michel and Kris Reaves each signed homegrown contracts with Orlando SC and FC Dallas respectively back in 2018 while Delentz Pierre and Brandon Cambridge each signed with Real Salt Lake and Charlotte FC in 2022.
The Pilots finished the season at 7-4-7 overall and 4-0-4 in WCC play, ending the year on a 10-game unbeaten streak that was the longest on the West Coast and the third longest in the country. They earned four wins over teams that finished in the top 35 in RPI this season as well.
