SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- For the seventh time this season, Dyani Ananiev was named the WCC Freshman of the Week after yet another stellar week.
Ananiev was the leading scorer for Portland in both contests last week, which were wins against the LMU Lions and the Pepperdine Waves. Against the Lions, Ananiev scored 14 of her 16 points in the third quarter to spark a second-half comeback for Portland, adding four steals en route to a 58-52 win. She also added four steals against LMU. She scored a game-high 19 points as well against the Pepperdine Waves with two steals and a block. She's now led the Pilots in scoring seven times this season.
The first-year player out of Australia is one of the top freshmen in the conference, averaging 9.1 points along with 1.5 steals and just under a block a game. She is second among all freshman in scoring and is the only WCC player to rank in the top 15 in both steals and blocks per contest. She currently holds the highest scoring average for a Pilot freshman since Alex Fowler in the 2019-20 season
The Pilots are looking strong entering the final weeks of the regular season, currently sitting at 17-8 overall and 9-2 in conference play to place second in the WCC. Up next, the Pilots have a crucial road trip, taking on the Pacific Tigers and Santa Clara Broncos down in California. They'll play the Tigers first on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
