Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland women's tennis team beat Eastern Washington 5-2 on Friday at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots improve to 7-5 on the season and 4-0 in matches at home.

The Eagles (3-9) came out aggressive to take the doubles point. Portland's nationally-ranked No. 1 doubles tandem of Iva Zelic and Sally Pethybridge cruised to a 6-1 win, but EWU won 6-4 at No. 2 and then in a tiebreaker at No. 3 to grab the early lead.

The Pilots bounced back by winning the first four singles matches to secure the team victory. Pethybridge was up 5-0 in the opening set when Jennifer Kida retired.

Zelic then defeated Scout Mathews by a 6-3, 6-2 margin at the No. 1 position followed by Alaia Rubio Perez outlasting Leandra Nizetic 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 3. Aleksandra Dimitrijevic provided the clinching point with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Isabella Foshee at No. 4.

EWU picked up another point at No. 5 singles when Kelly Arends won a three-set super tiebreaker over Nadine Arbaizar Martinez. Rimona Rouf capped the scoring for Portland with a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 against Kenzington Mann.

Portland will close out the non-conference schedule on Saturdya, March 16 at Oregon with a 1 p.m. start.
