LAKE NATOMA, Calif. – The Portland Pilots competed hard on the final day of the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships, highlighted by a second-place finish in the petite final of the varsity four race for Portland. The novice four and the second varsity eight took fourth in their respective grand finals while the first varsity eight took sixth in the grand final.

The first varsity eight raced first, taking sixth in their heat with a time of 7:02.134. Leahbelle Paladino was the coxswain while Kate Feustel was the stroke. The second varsity eight rowed next, taking fourth after finishing just behind Sacramento State with a time of 7:06.879. Dawon Lee was the coxswain for that boat while Julia Kiplinger was the stroke.

The varsity four had the top results of the day, being the only Pilot boat to take home a top-three finish. They took second in the petite final with a time of 8:13.487, just under two seconds behind Sacramento State. Clarissa Gutierrez was the coxswain with Gabriela Garcia as the stroke. The novice four, coxed by Ania Fernandez with Madi Quinton as the stroke, finished things off with a four-place finish in their race, posting a time of 8:28.174.

Next up, the Pilots will wait until mid-May for the WCC Championships back in Lake Natoma. The championship will take place on May 18. Check PortlandPilots.com for more information.
