PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Pilots pitcher Nick Brink has been named a 2023-24 College Sports Communicators Academic All-American, making the third team. He is the first CSC Academic All-American since 2011.
Brink earned the honor after posting a 3.95 GPA as a computer science major. He was dominant both in the classroom and on the field, throwing 99.2 innings this season with a 10-4 record and a 3.63 ERA. He had 130 strikeouts on the season, which led the West Coast Conference and also ranked sixth nationally. It was the second-highest strikeout total any Pilot has ever posted in a single season.
Brink also led the WCC in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.65), strikeouts per nine innings (11.74), WHIP (1.08) and walks allowed per nine innings (2.08). He was the only WCC pitcher to throw multiple complete games this season and the first Pilot to accomplish the feat since 2015. He was named an NCBWA Second Team All-American last month and was also an All-WCC First Team selection, a WCC All-Academic Team honoree and a CSC Academic All-District team pick.
It was an incredible year for the Pilots, who went 37-19 overall and 19-5 in WCC play. Their 37 wins were the most they've posted in a single season and their 19 wins are the most they've ever had in WCC play and the most across any conference they've played in since 1980. They made the 2024 WCC Tournament Championship this year, advancing to the championship game for the second season in a row.
