Box Score LONG BEACH, Calif. – Portland women's tennis opened the spring season this weekend at the Beach Winter Invite hosted by Long Beach State at the Rhodes Tennis Center. The Pilots competed in the mock dual format against The Beach, CSUN and Miami (OH).

In doubles action, Portland's tandem of Sally Pethybridge and Alaia Rubio Perez won two of their three matches while the Pilots finished the weekend 4-8 overall in doubles.

Singles was highlighted by two wins each from freshmen Maria Galatescu and senior Aleksandra Dimitrijevic. Portland finished 8-17 overall in singles action despite Pethybridge – the team's No. 1 player – competing just once in the three singles events.

The Pilots will officially open the dual season next weekend with a pair of matches in Houston, Texas. Portland meets UT Arlington on Saturday at 11 a.m. (PT) and then host Houston on Sunday at 8 a.m. (PT).
