OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The honors keep coming for Portland Pilots two-way athlete Curtis Hebert, who was named the College Baseball Foundation National Pitcher of the Week for his stellar performance last Friday. He's the first Pilot to win the award this season.
Hebert takes home the honor after throwing eight innings against the LMU Lions with 11 strikeouts on no runs allowed and just one hit and walk. His 11 strikeouts were a career high and also tied for the second most by a WCC pitcher this year. He threw 113 pitches to keep the Pilots in the ballgame until they won on a walk-off home run from Trey Swygart in the 10
th. He's also just the fifth WCC pitcher to go at least eight innings in a game this season.
The Alaska native has been crucial to the Pilots both on the mound and at the plate. He's made seven appearances with five starts for Portland on the mound, throwing 33 innings with a 3.27 ERA, a 1-0 record and a team-high 39 strikeouts. At the plate, he's batting .245 with 13 hits and three home runs.
The Pilots are off to a strong start in WCC play at 5-1, tied for first place in the conference through the first two weeks of WCC action. They are 11-17 overall, with their next contest being a home game against the No. 15 Oregon Ducks on Wednesday, April 2 at 5 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for tickets, live stats and video options.
