SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Kala Chock earned WCC Freshman of the Week for the third time this season. She is the only player to earn Freshman of the Week more than once this year.
Chock recorded 11 kills, six digs, three blocks, one assist and one service ace in the match against Seattle U this past weekend. She led her team in blocks and tied for a match high in blocks across both teams.
Chock leads Portland in kills this season with 108 kills. She ranks second for her team in blocks (17.0), service aces (10) and assists (18). Chock ranks second among freshmen in kills in the WCC.
Portland is currently 8-2 overall and 1-0 in WCC. The Pilots won over Seattle U last week, taking victory in their first conference game of the season in three sets (25-20, 25-17, 25-21). Portland currently holds a five-match win streak.
This week the Pilots return home to take on Santa Clara and San Francisco. Portland will take on the Santa Clara Broncos on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. at the Chiles Center. Then the Pilots will face the San Francisco Dons on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. at the Chiles Center. Admission to all home volleyball matches is free.
