SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference released its 2015 Preseason Poll on Wednesday and Loyola Marymount was picked to win league title in a vote of the WCC's 10 head coaches. The Lions earned six of 10 possible first-place votes and 77 overall points in the poll.
 
Pepperdine, the 2014 WCC Champions, earned 72 points and picked up three first place votes. San Diego collected 63 points to go along with the remaining first place vote and was picked to finish third. Gonzaga was tabbed fourth with 56 votes and Pacific caps the top-five with 45 votes.
 
Brigham Young was tabbed sixth with 40 points and is followed by Santa Clara (38), San Francisco (31), Saint Mary's (18) and Portland (10).
 
The Pilots enter the season with most of its roster returning from 2014. Eight seniors highlight a group of 23 returning letterwinners and Portland brings back eight position starters and a plethora of pitchers from a year ago.
 
Senior Caleb Whalen is one Portland's top returning bats after hitting .265 with four home runs, three triples, 12 doubles and 22 RBI's a year ago. Also back is sophomore Davis Tominaga, who had a solid first season on The Bluff, both on the mound and at the plate. He hit .291 as a freshman and made five starts and 12 appearances on the hill.
 
Portland head coach Chris Sperry enters his 18th year at the helm of the Pilots and he's joined once again in the dugout by assistants Larry Casian, Tucker Brack and Jeremy Beard.  
 
The 2015 season opener is only two days away as the Pilots travel to UC Riverside for a four-game series against the Highlanders this weekend. Friday's opener will begin at 6 p.m. and the two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m. Sunday's series final is set for 1 p.m.
