SAN BRUNO, Calif. – For the first time this season, Portland Pilots baseball racked up two West Coast Conference Player of the Week award, with two-way player Trey Swygart earning Player of the Week and freshman pitcher Alex Via earning Freshman of the Week.
Swygart was stellar at the plate and on the mound for Portland last week. Swygart hit .533 on the week with two home runs and six RBI's. Both home runs came against the LMU Lions on Friday, with Swygart becoming the first Pilot to hit multiple home runs in a game this year. On the mound, Swygart earned the win Friday, throwing 3.2 innings with seven strikeouts, with his seven K's being tied for the most by any Pilot pitcher in a single game.
Via closed out two games for the Pilots this weekend, earning saves in both spots. Via went 2.1 innings total and allowed no runs or hits in either appearance. Both saves came in games where the Pilots led by just two runs or fewer. Via now has four saves on the season, good for second in the conference and 17
th nationally.
The Bluff Boys are rolling, having won six straight games after their first ever road sweep of LMU and a win at home against then-No. 17 Oregon State Beavers. The win over the Beavers was their first since 2024 and their first at Joe Etzel Field since 2021. They've won 12 of their last 14 games overall and are a conference-best 14-7 on the year.
The Pilots are back in action today at 6 p.m. against the Northwestern Wildcats. Check PortlandPilots.com for tickets, live stats and video options.
