PAUMA VALLEY, Calif. --- Portland senior Jake Wagner carded his second top-15 finish of the year to lead the Portland Pilots at the Triumph at Pauma Valley, which concluded on Tuesday at the Pauma Valley Country Club. Wagner closed with a four-over par 75 on Tuesday, which allowed him to move up to 14th overall.
Wagner finished with a three-round total of 224, after shooting a 76 and a 73 during Monday’s opening rounds. Teammate and sophomore Nick Chianello finished just out of the top 20 with a 227 (78-76-73), while senior Justin Smithhisler was a stroke back with a 228 (75-74-79). Chianello and Smithhisler finished 24th and 25th, respectively.
San Francisco’s Ji Hwan Park fired a five-under par 66 during the final round, which allowed him to win medalist honors with a 210 (-3). Park jumped five spots during the final day to win the individual title. Central Arkansas’ Steven Lecuyer, who began the day in first place, was just one stroke shy of Park in second place.
Park’s win allowed Central Arkansas to claim the team title as well. The Bears combined for an 874, which was 19 strokes better than runner-up and tournament host San Francisco. Third-place Weber State was one stroke behind USF, while the Pilots finished seventh with a team score of 913.
UP freshman Daniel Snoey shot a 234, while fellow freshman Jarrett Foote finished with a 273.
The Pilots are scheduled to next take the course at the Oregon Duck Invitational, which is set for March 21-22 at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
