EUGENE, Ore. --- Portland senior Jake Wagner fired a four-under par 68 during the second round en route to a top-20 finish at the Oregon Duck Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at the Eugene Country Club. Wagner, who began the day tied for seventh overall, finished tied for 19th with a 217 (+1).
Wagner led the Pilots at last week’s Triumph at Pauma Valley by tying for 14th place. Wagner opened with a 74 at the Duck Invitational before closing with a 75 during the third and final round on Tuesday. His 68 was a tourney-low for the Pilots.
Medalist Chris Williams of Washington finished two strokes better than the rest of the field with a nine-under par 207. Oregon State’s Alex More and Michael Whitehead of Rice tied for second place with identical 207’s.
Top-ranked Oklahoma State won the team title after placing four golfers in the top 20. The Cowboys combined for an 848 (-16), which was eight strokes ahead of runner-up and 22nd-ranked Oregon (856). Washington was third with an 870, while Portland finished 14th with a 903.
UP sophomore Nick Chianello fired a three-under par 69 during the final round and shot a 224 overall, which was good for a tie for 44th place. Senior Justin Smithhisler shot a 229, freshman Daniel Snoey finished with a 234 and junior Sam Kloenne carded a 237. Junior Mike Johansen played as an individual and shot a 230.
The Pilots next set their sights on the Braveheart Classic, which is set for April 11-12 at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif.
