SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The Portland women’s tennis team dropped three West Coast Conference matches over the weekend, despite opening the weekend by winning the doubles point against San Francisco.

At Golden Gate Park in San Francisco on Friday the Pilots opened the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. At No. 1 Sabine Fuchs and Valeska Hoath won their fourth match as a doubles team in an 8-1 win. Stephanie Fuchs and Beate Valdmane teamed for a 9-8 victory in their first match as a doubles team at No. 3.

Portland was defeated in the five singles matches that were played, with only Hoath picking up a set victory at No. 3.

After dropping the doubles point against No. 41 Saint Mary’s, the Pilots lost three singles points before the remainder of the afternoons matches were declared unfinished. On Sunday at the Degheri Tennis Center on the Santa Clara campus, the Broncos defeated the Pilots 7-0. Against Santa Clara, the Pilots took two matches to three sets, with Hoath at No. 3 and Emily Mahairas at No. 6.

Portland will play its final dual match of the regular season on Friday at 1 p.m. inside the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center against the visiting Washington State Cougars.
