NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — University of Portland sophomore Valeska Hoath picked up two singles victories as the Pilots traveled to California on Thursday and Friday, dropping 6-1 decisions to both No. 59 UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Northridge, respectively.

On Thursday in Santa Barbara, the Pilots (9-7) only victory came at No. 3 singles where Hoath defeated Jordan Dockendorf of the Gauchos (11-7). Up after the first set, Hoath pulled out the victory when Dockendorf retired in the second set. UCSB took the remaining singles matches all in straight sets at the Robertson Gymnasium Courts.

Thursday at the Matador Tennis Complex in Northridge, it was again Hoath who battled for a three set victory after dropping the first set to the Matador’s (12-8) No. 3 singles player Maria Pistalu.

Hoath’s victory on Thursday, wrapped up a perfect 6-0 month of March for the Australian.

Portland next will play its second West Coast Conference opponent of the season on April 8 at University of San Francisco.
