SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The University of Portland women’s tennis team lost 4-0 to No. 47 Saint Mary’s at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif., in the opening round of the West Coast Conference Championships.
The Gaels took an early lead over the Pilots winning the doubles point with an 8-1 win at No. 1 and an 8-2 victory at No. 2. Portland then dropped three singles matches before the final three were called after the Gaels had secured the victory.
The top result for the Pilots came at No. 3 where Alice Tucker won three games against Anna Chkhikvishvili, before dropping the first set 6-3 and the second 6-0.
The Pilots meet Loyola Marymount tomorrow morning at 8 a.m., at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.
