SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The University of Portland women’s tennis team wrapped up a seventh place finish at the West Coast Conference Championships at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif., with a 4-1 win over rival Gonzaga on Saturday.
The Pilots began the match with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. At No. 2 Valeska Hoath and Lacey Pflibsen won a tightly contested match 8-5 over Clare Dodge and Kristina Zauere. Alice Tucker and Beate Valdmane secured the doubles point handily with an 8-2 win over Jackie Tabb and Sophie Lantta of Gonzaga.
In the completed singles matches the University of Portland secured the victory with three straight set wins. Pflibsen earned the victory at No. 3 against Zauere, while Hoath and Valdmane won at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
The University of Portland women finished the 2010-11 season with a 10-13 record.
