PORTLAND, Ore--- The University of Portland played host to the Portland Invitational inside the Louisiana-Pacific Center this past Friday and Saturday. Along with Portland, the University of Idaho and Portland State University rounded out the competition for the weekend.
 
Sophomore Anastasia Polyakova impressed throughout the tournament, going 2-1 in singles play and teaming up with senior Sabine Fuchs to go undefeated in their doubles matches. Polyakova’s only weekend loss came in a hard fought match (3-6, 6-7) against Almundena Sanz, the Vandal’s number one.
 
The Pilots’ doubles success continued with the combination of freshman Tori Troesch and redshirt freshman Milagros Cubelli. On Friday, the duo rolled past Portland State’s Daria Burobina and Mandy Malled (8-3) before fighting hard Saturday against Idaho’s Rita Bermudez and Alexandra Lozano (9-8 [3]) to capture a second victory. On the weekend, the five Pilot doubles teams finished with a winning record of 6-4.
