Aggies Hold off Pilots, 4-3
PORTLAND, Ore. --- Senior Valeska Hoath picked up her fifth win of the season and freshman Maja Mladenovic posted a straight set victory from the one position, but the UC Davis Aggies held off the Portland Pilots Sunday at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center by a score of 4-3.
Portland (3-3) started the day with Hoath and freshman Tori Troesch cruising to an 8-1 victory in the top doubles spot, Portland looked poised to take the doubles point with ease as Cubelli and Fuchs carried a 7-3 lead.
Momentum suddenly shifted to the Aggies (2-5), however, as Layla Sanders and Nicole Koehly took the last four games against Dhatt and Mladenovic in the second spot. On the far court Megan Heneghan and Lauren Curry applied increase pressure on Cubelli and Fuchs as well, taking three straight games to close Portland’s lead.
