Pilots Conclude Road Trip in Seattle against No. 36 Washington, Iowa State
PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women’s tennis team concludes its four match road swing in Seattle this weekend, playing a pair of afternoon matches beginning on Friday against No. 36 Washington. Portland will then square off against the Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday.
The Pilots (5-4) split the first two matches of the road trip last weekend, losing a tough match to No. 40 Washington State and then knocking off Lewis and Clark State.
Portland’s seniors continue to shine as they lead the young team. Valeska Hoath has posted a 7-2 record so far this season, while Sabine Fuchs is 6-3, helping the Pilots to an overall singles record of 33-21.
On the doubles side, redshirt-freshman Milagros Cubelli has been a catalyst with a 5-1 record spread between three partners. The boost on doubles has provided a spark for the Pilots early on in the season, a trend they hope to continue as they play their third ranked opponent in as many matches.
The Huskies carry a 6-3 record into Friday’s 1:30 pm match (l
ive stats and video here), but are playing just their second home match of the season as they host the Pilots.
Iowa State, meanwhile, owns a 1-5 record on the season and have lost three straight matches, including a 5-2 decision to Portland’s WCC opponent BYU last weekend. Saturday’s match will also be at the Nordstrom Center, beginning at 1 p.m.
