UC Davis Defeats Portland, 4-1

DAVIS, Calif. --- The Portland Pilots dropped a 4-1 decision to a red hot UC Davis Aggies team in non-conference women's tennis action Sunday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The Aggies (9-6) extend their winning streak to five matches with the victory, while the Pilots (5-5, 1-2 WCC) have now lost three in a row.

Junior Sophie van den Aarssen picked up the lone point for Portland, defeating Nicole Koehly 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Van den Aarssen improves to 4-2 this season in dual singles play.

The Aggies swept the doubles point with a close win at No. 1 as Layla Sanders and Koehly held off van den Aarssen and Jelena Lazarevic, 8-7. UC Davis won handily at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.

Portland sophomore Maja Mladenovic did not complete her singles match at No. 1 as she trailed 4-3 in the third set before the match was decided. Sophomore Tori Troesch also went unfinished at No. 5 after splitting the first two sets.

UC Davis earned straight set wins at No. 2, No. 4, and No. 6 singles to secure the win.

Portland will return to play its first home matches of the 2014 season this coming weekend. The Pilots host Loyola Marymount on Friday at 11 a.m. and then No. 40 Pepperdine on Saturday at 11 a.m. All home Portland tennis matches will have free live video and stats available at www.PortlandPilots.com.
