PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Portland women's tennis standouts Lucia Butkovska and Maja Mladenovic concluded play at the prestigious Riviera/ITA All-American Championships held at the Riviera Tennis Club. Competing against the top talent in the nation, the Pilots were one of 32 schools to have multiple participants in the field and one of just five universities from non-Power 5 conferences with more than one entrant.
Mladenovic dropped her opening round match in the Prequalifying Singles Draw on Saturday to Maeva Razakasoa of Long Beach State 6-1, 6-4.
Mladenovic teamed up with Butkovska in the Qualifying Doubles Draw on Sunday and dropped an 8-2 decision to Florida's tandem of Brianna Morgan and Anna Danilina. It was the first competitive doubles match for the Portland duo.
Butkovska, ranked No. 75 in the ITA Preseason Rankings, took on Ohio State freshman Francesca Di Lorenzo in the first round of the Qualifying Singles Draw on Tuesday. Di Lorenzo, ranked the top incoming recruit in the nation according to TennisRecruiting.net, defeated Butkovska by a 6-0, 7-5 margin. Di Lorenzo would go on to qualify for the Main Singles Draw with two more victories.
The Pilots will next take the court at the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational in Moraga, Calif. on Oct. 9-11.
