The Portland women's tennis team will visit No. 65 BYU in the West Coast Conference opener for both schools on Friday at 9 a.m. (PT) at the Indoor Tennis Courts on the BYU campus.
The Pilots (4-1) are off to a good start this spring with their lone loss a 4-3 heartbreaker to No. 34 Oklahoma two weeks ago. Last weekend, Portland cruised to a pair of 7-0 victories over Lewis & Clark and Linfield.
The No. 65 Cougars (3-4) have played a rigorous early spring schedule that includes a 1-3 record against nationally ranked teams. Last weekend BYU dropped a pair of road matches at No. 36 Arizona (4-3) and No. 27 Arizona State (6-1).
Portland's top two players – Lucia Butkovksa and Maja Mladenovic – have both earned singles rankings this spring. Butkovska is ranked No. 70 in the latest ITA rankings. Both players are undefeated in dual matches.
Following Friday's match, the Pilots will take a week off before visiting Oregon on Friday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m.
