EUGENE, Ore. – The Portland women's tennis team picked up a big non-conference road victory with a 4-3 win at Oregon on Friday night at the Student Tennis Center. The Pilots improve to 5-2 with the win as both losses have come against ranked opponents. Oregon, whose two previous losses were also to ranked opponents, falls to 5-3 overall.

Portland showed perseverance throughout the entirety of the match, having to come back for key victories in both doubles and singles matches.

The Pilots lost at No. 1 doubles by a 6-3 margin, but were able to take the crucial point by posting 6-4 victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. The point proved valuable as singles matches came down to the wire.

Portland received a pair of dominating singles performances as junior Saroop Dhatt cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 6 position over Paloma Gomez. Then Lucia Butkovska improved to 6-0 in dual singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Nia Rose at the No. 1 spot.

Oregon battled back with straight set wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions, and won the opening set at both the No. 2 and No. 5 spots to temporarily push ahead.

Portland senior Sophie van den Aarssen came up big at No. 5 and pulled out the 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 victory to secure the match for the Pilots.

Oregon's Alyssa Tobita handed No. 102 Maja Mladenovic her first singles defeat of the dual season with a 6-3, 6-7(5), 7-5 decision at the No. 2 spot.

The Pilots will next take the court on Thursday, March 5 in Seattle against the Washington State Cougars at 5 p.m., before taking on Seattle U. on Friday at 11 a.m.
