SEATTLE, Wash. – The Portland women's tennis team pulled out a 4-3 win over the Boise State Broncos Saturday afternoon at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. The Pilots improve to 7-4 on the season, while the Broncos fall to 5-8 overall.
The Pilots narrowly edged Boise State in doubles, win at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to secure the point. Portland was leading 6-4 in a tiebreaker at No. 2 when the point was won.
Portland then won the first three singles decisions to clinch the match. Lucia Butkovska ran her spring dual record to 10-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Megan LaLone at the No. 1 spot. Senior Sophie van den Aarssen cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 and junior Saroop Dhatt won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5.
Boise State would win two of the final three matches in third set tiebreakers.
Portland will next return to the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center to host a West Coast Conference match against the No. 39 San Francisco Dons (7-4) on Tuesday at 10 a.m. The match will have live video and live stats provided by PortlandPilots.com.
