PORTLAND, Ore. – In the rankings for the first time in program history, the No. 67 University of Portland women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 sweep of the Cal Poly Mustangs Wednesday afternoon at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. Portland improves to 9-4 overall, while the Mustangs fall to 2-11.

The Pilots secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Sophomores Lucia Butkovska and Jelena Lazarevic improved to 9-2 at the No. 1 doubles position with the win, while Maja Mladenovic and Sophie van den Aarssen moved to 7-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Portland then clinched the match with straight set wins at all six positions in singles play. Butkovska improved to 11-1 win her victory at No. 1 singles. Mladenovic jumped to 8-4 overall with the win at No. 2, and van den Aarssen moved up to the No. 3 spot and improved to 10-3 in dual singles this season.

The bottom of Portland's lineup was also up to the task. Lazarevic won decisively at No. 4, while juniors Tori Troesch and Emily Gould picked up victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively.

Portland will look to continue its midseason momentum with a pair of West Coast Conference home matches this weekend. The Pilots host No. 33 Saint Mary's (8-6, 2-0 WCC) on Friday and Pacific (7-6, 1-1) on Saturday. Both matches begin at 11 a.m. and will have live video and statistics available at PortlandPilots.com.
