SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The San Francisco Dons held on for a 4-2 win over the Portland Pilots in West Coast Conference women's tennis action Friday afternoon at the Olympic Club. Portland falls to 4-10 overall and 1-2 in WCC play, while the Dons improve to 3-10 overall and 1-3 in league.
After the Dons claimed the doubles point, Portland captured the early momentum in singles play by winning the first set in all six matches.
Freshman Tatiana Grigoryan tied the score at 1-1 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Shanna Dos Santos at No. 4 singles and then senior Maja Mladenovic gave the Pilots the lead with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Genevieve McCloskey at No. 3.
San Francisco responded by coming back and pulling out three set wins at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 positions to end the match.
Portland will look to bounce back on Saturday at Santa Clara. The match is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
