PALO ALTO, Calif. – The Portland women's tennis team began action on Thursday at the ITA Northwest Regionals hosted at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. Junior Radina Dimitrova won two matches and has advanced to the Round of 32, while sophomore Emily Soares won her opening round singles match and teamed with sophomore Anna Oberg to advance in doubles.

Dimitrova defeated Rachel Swindell of Eastern Washington in straight sets and then followed that with an impressive 6-4, 7-5 win in the afternoon over Oregon's Daniela Nasser. She advances and will take on the tournament's No. 7 seed, Emily Arbuthnott of Stanford, on Friday at 10:30 a.m.

Soares pulled out a come-from-behind three set win against Nadine DelCarmen of Santa Clara and then battled before losing to Gonzaga's Haruna Tsuruta in the next round.

Soares and Oberg beat the UC Davis duo of Shirley Hall and Jessica Walker by an 8-3 margin to open the day and will next face Gonzaga's tandem of Graciela Rosas and Sophia Whittle in the second round on Friday at 9 a.m.
