PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland women's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 win over San Francisco in the West Coast Conference opener for both schools on Friday at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots improve to 5-6 overall, while the Dons drop to 2-10 on the season.

Portland took the doubles point after freshmen Emily Soares and Anna Oberg won 6-0 at No. 3 and sophomores Radina Dimitrova and Tatiana Grigoryan won by a 6-2 margin at No. 2. Portland's No. 1 duo of Jelena Lazarevic and Jelena Lukic were leading 5-2 when the point was clinched.

Lukic then doubled the Pilots' lead with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles against Genevieve McCloskey. The freshman from Serbia has now won five of her last six dual singles matches.

San Francisco won at No. 2 singles with Emily Maxfield winning in straight sets, but the Pilots answered with Lazarevic defeating Hanna Borjeson 6-3, 7-6 at the No. 3 position. Lazarevic continued her hot singles play by winning her sixth match in the last seven outings.

Freshman Emily Soares clinched the match the for the Pilots with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 5 spot and then the Pilots closed out the scoring with Grigoryan and Oberg victories to close out the afternoon. Grigoryan ran her singles win streak to five matches with a three-set win against Margarita Treyes.

Portland will continue its WCC homestand by hosting the Santa Clara Broncos (4-5) on Saturday at 10 a.m. It will be the Broncos WCC-opener. All home matches will have live video and scoring available at PortlandPilots.com.
