LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Loyola Marymount Lions held off a late comeback by the Portland Pilots and pulled out a 4-1 women's tennis victory to conclude West Coast Conference regular season play Saturday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Center. The Lions improve to 13-8 overall and 5-4 in WCC play, while the Pilots drop to 8-12 overall and 3-6 in league action.

LMU won the doubles point and then won the top two singles matches to jump out to a 3-0 lead on the Pilots.

Portland freshman Anna Oberg helped shift the momentum with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Julia Norlin at the No. 6 position, her sixth win in the last seven matches.

The Pilots dropped the first set of the other three remaining matches, but freshman Emily Soares and sophomore Tatiana Grigoryan each evened their matches to force third sets.

Senior Jelena Lazarevic was locked in a close match with Siobhan Anderson at No. 3 singles and Anderson was able to clinch with a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 win.

The top six teams in the league qualify for the 2017 WCC Championships held April 27-29 at Claremont, Calif. Portland is currently tied with Santa Clara for 7th place at 3-6, while BYU has a 3-5 league record with a match at Saint Mary's on Monday. A BYU loss would lead to tiebreakers to determine the No. 6 seed.
