PORTLAND, Ore. – The UC Davis Aggies held off the Portland Pilots by a 5-2 margin in a tightly contested women's tennis match on Sunday at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. The match came down to the final two singles matches, both going the distance and going in favor of the visiting Aggies.

The Aggies (2-0) opened the scoring by claiming the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Portland's tandem of Radina Dimotrova and Emily Soares were victorious at No. 3 doubles.

Dimitrova tied the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Kristina Breisacher at No. 2 singles, but UC Davis answered with a hard-fought win from Lani-Rae Green at the No. 3 spot against Pilot freshman Raphaelle Leblanc.

Portland sophomore Jelena Lukic outlasted Kristy Jorgensen 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to tie the match at 2-2.

The lead went back to UC Davis when Sara Tsukamoto held off Emily Soares in straight sets at the No. 5 spot, leaving Portland in must-win situations at No. 4 and No. 6.

Pilot freshman Lourdes Ramalle showed a lot of grit to come back from a 6-1 loss in the first set against Nikita Pradeep. Ramalle won the second 7-5, but Pradeep held on 7-5 in the third to clinch the match for UC Davis.

Sophomore Anna Oberg and Isabella von Ebbe simultaneously battled at No. 6 singles. Oberg won the first set 6-4, but von Ebbe answered 7-5 to force a third and won by a 6-2 margin to finish the scoring.

Portland will next take the court on Friday, Feb. 2 against crosstown rival Portland State. The match will start at 10 a.m. at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center with live video coverage and point-by-point scoring courtesy of Tennis Ticker.
