PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women's rowing teams wraps up its fall schedule on Sunday morning when they travel north to Seattle for the 39th annual Head of the Lake. The Pilots will race a trio of eights while in the Emerald City.
Â
"We're ready for last race of the fall season," Portland head coach Pasha Spencer said. "This will give us some input for winter training."
Â
The annual event, co-hosted by the UW and Lake Washington Rowing Club, features a three-mile course, which starts in Lake Union, northeast of Gasworks Park, crosses Portage Bay, runs through the Montlake Cut and finishes in Union Bay of Lake Washington, just east of Conibear Shellhouse.
Â
Portland's varsity eight will be the Pilots' first boat on the water, with that event scheduled for 8:06 a.m. The varsity eight, which is coming off a first-place finish at the Portland Fall Classic, will have Miranda Reyes as the coxswain and Jacquelyn Bass rowing stroke. Other crews in the field include Oregon, Seattle Pacific, Lewis & Clark, Puget Sound, and two boats from Washington.
Â
Portland's second eight, with Emma Papenhausen as coxswain and Amanda Hernandez Michalski in the stroke seat, follow at 8:09 a.m. The second eight will also square off against two boats from UW, as well as crews from British Columbia and Puget Sound.
Â
The Pilots' third eight will conclude the day, and their race is scheduled for 8:19 a.m. Seattle Pacific and Washington will each have two boars in the field, and Puget Sound will also race a third eight. Portland's crew will feature Emily Davis at coxswain and Lauren Yee rowing stroke.
Â
This will be Portland's third and final event of the fall, and the Pilots won't officially compete again until March, when they return to the water for the Sacramento State Invite and the PLU Invite.
