PORTLAND, Ore. – The San Jose State Spartans knocked off the Portland Pilots by a 5-2 margin on Sunday morning at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. The Spartans improve to 7-2 on the season, while the Pilots fall to 1-6.

Portland freshman Lourdes Ramalle defeated Laura Malsert in straight sets at the No. 4 position and sophomore Emily Soares posted a three-set win against Jackie Wagner at No. 5 for the Pilots.

In doubles, the Pilot tandem of Soares and Radina Dimitrova posted a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles, but the Spartans won at the top two positions to claim the doubles point.

San Jose State then won at the three top lineup positions to clinch the win. Senior Sybille Gauvain outlasted Portland sophomore Jelena Lukic at the No. 1 position in three sets. Tamara Culibrk won a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 decision against Radina Dimitrova at No. 2 and Miyo Kobayashi defeated freshman Raphaelle Leblanc in straight sets.

Savannah Sendar recorded SJSU's fifth point with a straight sets win against sophomore Anna Oberg at No. 6 singles.

The Pilots will travel to Missoula, Mont. for two matches next weekend. Portland plays host Montana at 1 p.m. (PT) on Friday and then takes on Montana State at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Both matches will be played at Peak Racquet Club.
