PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland freshman Raphaelle Leblanc posted a straight sets singles win and the Pilots played dynamite doubles, but the Loyola Marymount Lions held on for a 4-2 victory on Friday at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center.

Portland played its best doubles tennis of the season as sophomores Jelena Lukic and Anna Oberg defeated the No. 29-ranked tandem in the nation at the No. 1 position. The Pilot duo cruised to a 6-2 win against Victoria Miroshnichenko and Eva Marie Voracek.

Portland's No. 3 pairing of freshmen Lourdes Ramalle and Laura Okazaki then clinched the point with a 6-1 win against Elvira Juravliova and Yesica De Lucas. Junior Radina Dimitrova and freshman Raphaelle Leblanc were leading 5-4 at No. 2 doubles when the Pilots clinched.

Singles was a battle at the top of the lineup as all three matches were tight. Miroshnichenko, ranked No. 51 nationally, defeated Lukic 6-3, 7-5 and then Voracek beat Dimitrova 6-4, 7-6 (2). Ramalle took the first set against Siobhan Anderson at No. 3 singles, but fell 6-4 in the third.

Leblanc was impressive at No. 4 singles for the Pilots with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against De Lucas to make it a 3-2 overall score.

The Lions clinched when Juravliova won in straight sets at No. 5. Portland sophomore Emily Soares and Camila Tumosa of LMU were tied 5-5 in the first set at the No. 6 spot when the match was decided.

Portland will have another tough match on Saturday as No. 8-ranked Pepperdine visits the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. The match will start at 10 a.m. with live video and scoring available at PortlandPilots.com.
