SEATTLE, Wash. – Eastern Washington pulled out a narrow 4-3 win over the Portland Pilots in non-conference women's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
The Pilots (1-2) claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Juniors Anna Oberg and Emily Soares teamed up for a 6-1 win at No. 2, while sophomore Laura Okazaki and freshman Angela Schuster posted a 6-2 win at No. 3 to clinch the point.
Schuster and fellow freshman Marija Elenova picked up straight set singles wins for Portland's other two points. Schuster defeated Faye Worrall 6-3, 7-6 at the No. 5 position, while Elenova knocked off Stephanie Broussard by a 6-3, 6-4 margin at No. 4 singles.
The Eagles (1-1) were able to win the other four singles matches in straight sets to claim the overall match win.
The Pilots will next take the court on Friday, Feb. 8 against the Seattle U. Redhawks in Seattle.
