PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland senior Acacia Welsford, junior Jacquelyn Bass, and sophomore Mollie Rutz were each named to the 2019 West Coast Conference Rowing All-Academic Team, while 16 Pilots total earned all-academic recognition. This is the third straight year to land on the league's all-academic team for Welsford.

Portland matched LMU for the conference-high in most rowers honored.

Welsford is a history major with a 3.96 cumulative GPA, and she primarily rowed for Portland's second eight this spring. The crew won a silver medal at the Covered Bridge Regatta, they advanced to the Grand Final at the 2019 WIRA Championships, and they helped the Pilots record their fourth-straight fourth-place finish at the West Coast Conference Championships.

A biology major with a 3.94 GPA, Jacquelyn Bass was part of Portland's varsity eight that was named the WCC's Crew of the Month in March. At the Husky Open, the Pilots won their heat and set a program event record time. They also won a silver at the Covered Bridge Regatta, advanced to the WIRA Grand Finals, and placed fourth at the WCC's.

Mollie Rutz boasts a 3.94 GPA, and she's majoring in political science. Rutz primarily rowed on Portland's varsity four boat, which placed third at the Husky Open. The crew also won the Petite Final at the Covered Bridge Regatta, and they finished fourth in the Grand Final at the WIRA's.

Earning WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention for the Pilots are seniors Megan Del Pozzi, Lauren Jesse, Megan Medalia, Veronica Nicacio, Miranda Reyes, and Brianne Zbylicki, junior Reeca Bardon, and sophomores Brooklin Gomez, Allison Palazzotto, Emma Papenhausen, Tess Pritchett, Audrey Shellum-Gonzalez, and Lauren Yee.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
