PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland women's rowing team will be in familiar territory for Saturday's West Coast Conference Championships. The regatta will be held at the Pilots' home course, Vancouver Lake in nearby Vancouver, Wash. First-year head coach Gulliver Scott is excited to see the growth his team has made throughout the season.
"I'm proud of this group for staying motivated and sticking together through a very challenging season," Scott said. "Just making it to this point is an accomplishment. We've had a really good series of practices leading up to WCCs and we're all excited to see how we stack up against some very vast crews."
The championship will feature four races beginning at 8:40 a.m. with the Varsity Fours and will conclude with the Varsity Eight at 9:40 a.m.
"Despite the limitations of this season, our team has never been more focused and ready to meet the challenges of WCCs," team captain Audrey Shellum Gonzalez said. "I am confident in the work this team has put in, and I expect tomorrow will be a pivotal day for our program."
Portland has competed in
four events this spring leading up to the conference championships with two of those hosted at Vancouver Lake.
