CARY, N.C. – The Portland women's tennis doubles tandem of Iva Zelic and Sally Pethybridge won their third match in 24 hours on Sunday afternoon at the prestigious ITA All-American Championships to move into Monday's Qualifying Draw.

The duo knocked off the Pre-Qualifying Draw's No. 2 seed from Wake Forest by a comfortable 8-3 margin and now await their Monday opponents.

The Pilot pair opened the tournament with a comfortable 8-3 win against Vanderbilt's Dasha Kourkina and Marcella Cruz on Saturday. They then defeated VCU's Gabriela Ana Maria Davidescu and Anastasia Smirnova by an 8-6 margin to set up Sunday's contest.

After dropping the opening game to Nevena Carton and Maryam Ahmad of Wake Forest, the Pilots were in complete control the rest of the way. The team was a late addition to the Pre-Qualifying Draw when a number of teams withdrew and the Portland tandem was inserted as an alternate.

"I'm very excited for Sally and Iva," Portland head coach Filip Zivkovic said. "They got the opportunity to compete here at the 11th hour and are taking full advantage of it. We had two great days of doubles play at this event with three very solid wins and I am super proud of the way they are representing our program. Iva and Sally are really clicking as a team, they are fully trusting each other and it's truly showing in their execution and results. They are setting the tone for our players and demonstrating what we can be as a doubles team come Spring season. It is exciting to be a part of their growth and I look forward to seeing how far they can go."

Zelic, who is ranked No. 110 nationally in the ITA Preseason Singles Rankings, will also take part in the Qualifying Singles Draw on Monday, while Pethybridge will play a consolation singles match against Utah's Kaila Barksdale on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (PT).

The ITA All-American Championships Qualifying Draw (64 singles, 48 doubles) is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. The Main Draw is set for Oct. 5-9 featuring 32 singles players and 32 doubles teams in total including eight singles players and six doubles teams from the Qualifying Draw.
