VANCOUVER, Wash. – Portland Pilots Rowing will compete in their first and only home event of the season tomorrow, April 16 against the Saint Mary's Gaels and the Seattle U Redhawks. They'll have four boats competing for the first time this year as well.
"We're excited to race two quality opponents on our home course," Portland head coach Gulliver Scott said. "This will be another good test for our team and we know we'll be in for some tough racing."
Portland is coming off a strong showing at the Husky Open, where two of the three boats that raced took first place in their events. Both varsity eight boats achieved victory up in Seattle for the first time this season.
The Pilots, Gaels and Redhawks will race on the fully buoyed race course at Vancouver Lake, with the novice four boats kicking things off at 8:40 a.m. The varsity four will race soon after at 9 a.m. The second varsity eight will go at 9:20 a.m. and the first varsity eight will finish things off at 9:40 a.m. You can check out our Instagram page at @portlandwrow.
There will be post-race ceremonies soon after celebrating the winners. All Pilot seniors will also be recognized by team chaplain Fr. Jim Gallagher at 10:15 a.m. in Vancouver Lake Park.
