Former Portland Pilots rower Maddie Olson is set to represent the United States Women's Rowing team at the World University Games this summer.
The World University Games are an international event that draws student-athletes from all across the world. Athletes from across the world represent their countries in several sports, including rowing, archery, basketball and more. The games begin on July 27
th with the opening ceremony, with rowing events taking place between Aug. 4-6.
Olson is coming off a decorated five-year career with Portland Pilots rowing. She was a mainstay of the first varsity eight for most of that time and was named to the All-WCC team three times, including this past season. A team captain for the Pilots, she was also a multi-time All-WCC preseason team selection.
The Pilots are coming off a strong year on the water, having finished on the podium for the first time ever at the WCC Championships this May with a third-place finish in the first varsity eight race. The Pilots earned four wins on the year, with their varsity four taking the petite final at WIRAs, the second varsity eight earning a win in their home meet at Vancouver Lake against Seattle U and Saint Mary's and the first varsity eight also winning at Vancouver Lake and taking first at the Husky Open. The first varsity eight was named the WCC Crew of the Month as well in March.
