SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Portland women's tennis tandem Rimona Rouf and Alaia Rubio Perez have been named the West Coast Conference Doubles Team of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
The recognition is the first for Portland this dual season in singles or doubles. Rouf and Rubio Perez won both of their road matches in helping Portland record victories over Santa Clara and San Francisco last week.
The duo beat Kacey Feng and Gabriela Tevez of Santa Clara, 6-1, on Thursday in helping the Pilots earn their first road win at Santa Clara since 2007. They then cruised to a 6-2 win against Qianer Qiu and Julia Visaya of the Dons on Saturday to clinch the doubles point in Portland's 5-2 team win at San Francisco.
Rouf and Rubio Perez improved to 4-0 in doubles against WCC opponents this Spring and 5-1 overall this season.
The Pilots will return home to host four consecutive WCC matches to conclude the regular season beginning with LMU at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center on Saturday at 10 a.m.
