SAN MATEO, Calif. – Portland Pilots Rowing had two rowers named to the All-WCC Preseason Team on Thursday, with Mia Kilmister and Kate Feustel making the squad. The Pilots were picked to finish seventh in the WCC as well in the annual coaches preseason poll.
Kilmister makes the team for the second year in a row after an impressive year with the varsity eight boat. She raced in every event for the Pilots in the top boat, leading the varsity eight to top a top finish at the Tacoma Tussle, a grand final appearance at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association championships and a fifth-place finish at the 2024 WCC Championships. She was an All-WCC Team selection for the first time in her career as well and earned WCC All-Academic Honorable mention.
Feustel makes the All-WCC Preseason team for the first time in her career in 2025. She joined Kilmister as an All-WCC Team selection in 2024 and was also a steady presence in the varsity eight boat. She was named a CRCA Scholar Athlete last season and earned WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention as well.
The Pilots were picked to finish seventh in the poll with 23 points. The Oregon State Beavers, Gonzaga Bulldogs and Washington State Cougars were all picked to finish first, second and third respectively at 58, 57 and 55 points each. The San Diego Toreros were picked fourth at 44 points ahead of the WCC's newest rowing team, the Sacramento State Hornets, who were picked fifth at 34 points.
The Saint Mary's Gaels are just ahead of the Pilots at 28 points. The Pilots are followed closely by the Creighton Bluejays at 17 points with the Santa Clara Broncos sitting in the final spot at eight points.
The Pilots open the season at Lake Natoma for the Sacramento State Invite on Saturday, March 8. Check PortlandPilots.com for more information. For the full coaches poll and preseason team, see below.
