SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Portland women's tennis tandem Alaia Rubio Perez and Sally Pethybridge have been named the Helluva Good Dip WCC Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. It is the second straight week the Pilots have been recognized following Nadine Arbaizar Martinez earning singles honors previously.
Rubio Perez and Pethybridge were key in helping Portland extend its team winning streak to five matches with home victories over Weber State and Idaho State last weekend.
Portland's No. 1 doubles tandem cruised to a pair of wins to set the tone in both matches. The duo defeated Jessica Hill and Sydney Schnell of Weber State 6-1 on Saturday and then knocked off Stefanya Shalakhova and Veronika Zarovna of Idaho State 6-1 on Sunday. They improved to 6-1 this dual season at the top of the lineup.
Portland returns to action on Friday with a road match at Sacramento State on Friday at noon. The Pilots then visit UC Davis on Saturday with an 11 a.m. start.
