SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Kala Chock was named WCC Volleyball Freshman of the Week for the second time this season.
Chock had a stellar weekend with 18 kills, 21 digs, six assists, three service aces and two blocks. In the match against North Dakota State she had a hitting percentage of .500 with seven kills. Chock had a match high across both teams of 14 digs against Montana State, a career high for the Freshman. She also recorded a double-double at the Montana State game with 14 digs and 11 kills.
Chock is the current team leader with 69 kills in only six games. She is second in assists (12) and service aces (6), third in digs (52) and fifth in blocks (8). Chock ranks 19th in the WCC with her 69 season kills and second in WCC in kills among freshmen.
The Pilots have gone 4-2 this season and 1-1 this past week with a loss to North Dakota State and a win over Montana State. Portland lost to North Dakota State in a three-set sweep (25-21, 25-22, 25-16) and took Montana State to four sets before securing victory (24-26, 25-15, 25-20, 25-23).
The Pilots play three matches this week in the Eastern Washington Volleyball Tournament in Cheney, Wash., hosted by the Eastern Washington Eagles. They play CSU Bakersfield on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 3 p.m. at Reese Court to kick off the tournament. Then the Pilots will take on Nevada on Friday, Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. and then host team Eastern Washington on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 3 p.m.
