SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- Portland junior defenders Sarah Bridges and Kendall Johnson were named to the 2012 West Coast Conference Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team, while seven Pilots garnered league all-academic honorable mention accolades. The nine Pilots honored are easily the most in the conference.
Bridges, a recent selection to the CoSIDA/Capital One Women’s Soccer Academic All-District 8 Second Team, earned WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention as a sophomore last year. A political Science major with a 3.87 cumulative GPA, Bridges has started every game at center back this season. The Portland native from Jesuit High School has two assists this fall.
Johnson, who also hails from Portland, garnered WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention a year ago. The left back has two goals, three assists and seven points this fall and has notched one game-winner. The Lincoln High graduate boasts a cumulative GPA of 3.82 and is working towards a degree in communication.
Earning WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention for the Pilots are senior Taylor Brooke, juniors Kaila Cameli, Micaela Capelle, Michelle Cruz, Erin Dees and Ellen Parker and sophomore Emily Sippel.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
