PORTLAND, Ore. – University of Portland has announced the addition of guard Jack Perry to the men's basketball team as a graduate transfer, head coach Shantay Legans announced. Perry (6-2, 180) played four seasons at Eastern Washington with Legans. He will have one year of eligibility with the Pilots.
"Jack brings maturity and leadership to our roster," Legans said. "He makes others around him better, has a high basketball IQ and can really shoot it. Jack has been a winner at every stop throughout his basketball career and is someone that I would love to have coach with me when he is done playing. We are excited to welcome Jack to the Pilot Basketball family!"
"Coach Legans was the first person to recruit me when I was really young," Perry said. "He has had faith in me since I was 16 years old. I wanted to follow him and his path and at the same time, I'm excited to get to Portland. The campus looks beautiful and I really like the feel of the place."
Perry was a sniper for the Eagles this past season, shooting 22-for-44 (50%) from three-point range. That mark was good for third-best in Eastern Washington history. He showed up in numerous key moments for the Eagles last season, scoring 11 points on his "Senior Day" versus Idaho State in the regular season finale and scoring nine points with a pair of threes in the Big Sky Tournament title game against Montana State.
Perry is one of 24 players to partake in 100 games with the Eagles, ranking 14th in total games played at 113. His career 41.3 three-point percentage ranks 10th all-time for the Eagles. He earned Big Sky Conference All-Academic honors in three years at Eastern Washington.
Before college, the Melbourne, Australia native played for the Under-20 Victoria State Team, competing in the U-20 National Championships in February of 2017. He also helped the lead the Dandenog Rangers to the U-18 Victorian and National Junior Classic in 2016 and was co-captain of the Victoria Metro squad that won the U-18 national championship that same year.
In 2015, he helped Metro finish fourth in the U-18 national championship and led Dandenong to a runner-up finish at the U-18 Victorian Championships. He was also a member of the U-17 Australian National Team.
Perry is one of three EWU transfers coming to The Bluff, joining
Tyler Robertson and
Mike Meadows. Perry also joins a class that will feature freshmen
Yaru Harvey and
Skylar Wilson.
